Picking up where we left off with your personal tales and reflections from season 2004-05...
15th May 2005 marked the end of the 2004/05 premiership season. It was one of the most important games for all us Spurs supporters as was once last place in Europe at stake. As you can see from the pictures I played an important role on the day!
It was my birthday on Saturday 14th May. Two days before my birthday I received a phone call from someone who claimed to be a representative of Tottenham Hotspur football club. He told me I was picked to take part in a competition called ‘Shoot for a Holiday’.
The basic idea of Shoot for a Holiday is to come on to the pitch at half time in front of the fans and compete by dribbling round three deck chairs and trying to score a goal past our mascot, Chirpy, in the fastest time possible. The fan that scores the fastest goal will receive a pair of flight tickets to Australia.
Chirpy blocked my first attempt, but, with more experience, I scored at my second attempt in just under 9 seconds. Rob, the Blackburn Rovers fan also scored at his second attempt.
Everyone, except the Blackburn's supporters of course, was cheering for me!
One of the stewards told my mate that I was the fastest record of the competition!!!
When the announcement of the winner was about to be made, people were chanting, 'Terry! Terry! Terry!'.
However, it turned out I was only the fastest record holder for only 1 minute. I lost the competition, but only by 0.5 seconds.
I did not feel disappointed at all. At least I am still the fastest from Spurs! Having a once in a life time opportunity to score a goal at the sacred turf was enough to brighten my life.
What’s more, a mate agreed to give me £10 if I can did a classic Klinsmann dive to celebrate my goal. Of course, I couldn’t say no to an opportunity to please the crowd.
