Spurs Programme nets award
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
The quality of our matchday programme has been endorsed by the Wirral Programme Club who have named the publication joint ‘Programme of the Year’.

A certificate, which has been sent to the club, is due reward for the hard work and imagination put into producing the programme over the course of a season by editor John Fennelly, also the club’s press officer, and his sidekick Jon Rayner.

‘Fenners’, as he is known to all at White Hart Lane and media circles, is the author of the highly popular ‘Tie-Ups’ feature in the programme, where he calls on all his years as a supporter and club official to provide witty links between us and our opponents of the day.

It is the introduction of innovative features such as this that provides the programme with a freshness and homespun feel (content is virtually all generated in-house by the press office) that keeps Spurs up with the leaders in the souvenir programme field.

We have also featured strongly in the Commercial Managers' Assocation list. They have named our organ on their top-four shortlist, but the winners will not be announced until their annual dinner next week when we hope our man Scot Gardiner will bring home the top award!

We were 'Very Highly Commended' by Programme Monthly.

"We are delighted at the breadth of this recognition because it shows an appreciation by both the readers and the industry itself,” commented John Fennelly.

"The judging is done broadly on appearance, content plus value for money, but some programmes simply have a good 'feel' to them and we are told that our programme certainly fits into that category. Our other good strength is the actual quality of writing together with our continual search for exclusive pictures.

"We at Spurs are proud of our programme which we feel has a unique identity with the club itself. It is certainly supported by our own fans as is illustrated by the fact that sales continue to improve.

"There are some marvellous programmes about in the Premiership and we have to go on improving year by year just to keep in step. That will again be our aim for next season.

"Programme production is a team effort so we must thank printers (and designers) Peterhurst, official photographers Action Images, backed up by Empix and Allsport, distributers Hitchcocks, our various freelance writers plus my assistant Jon 'The Count' Rayner.”

By Richard Hubbard
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
