spurs (((on!))) newsflash

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

John Scales has completed his expected move to Ipswich Town and secures the opportunity of regular Premiership football. He has signed a one-year deal.

Scales' spell at White Hart Lane was ravaged by a succession of injuries after a L2.6m move from Liverpool in December 1996. The latest was a chronic calf problem.

He was restricted to less than 40 games in three-and-a-half years. The arrival of Chris Perry last summer and youngster Anthony Gardner from Port Vale further reduced his chances of first team action.

On the positive side, Scales remained fit from February to the end of the season and, although he didn't feature in George Graham's plans, he now has the chance to resurrect his career with George Burley's Premiership newcomers.

"I am sure Ipswich has a bright future and it is a new start for me," he said. It is what I needed. I know what work is needed from me personally to play at this level and I know what Ipswich require as well.

"I want to enjoy my football again, rather than going into the training ground seven days a week and heading straight for the physio's room."

"I have never experienced anything else like the injuries I suffered at Spurs at any time in my career. It was so frustrating because the club paid a lot of money for me and all you want to do is go out and repay that faith. It's been a bitterly disappointing time but I have a chance of a new challenge and the club has made progress with the arrival of Chris Perry and Anthony Gardner. Things evolve.

"All I can do is look back with regrets but injuries are a fact of life in football and you have to get on with it. I am concentrating on staying fit and hopefully getting a season under my belt at Ipswich."
