Spurs get that cup buzz!

English Barclays Premiership

Brentford will be our first opponents in this season's Worthington Cup - a repeat of the tie that kicked-off our run to the final and success at Wembley two seasons ago.

Wednesday night's draw paired us with the Second Division outfit in a two-legged second round affair to be played during the weeks commencing September 18 and 25. The first leg will be at Griffin Park.

Fans will see the draw as the perfect omen. Back in the 1998-99 season we beat the Bees 3-2 twice in two hard-fought legs - we were behind twice at Brentford and again at White Hart Lane - in the same round. Victories followed against Northampton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Wimbledon before a memorable last-minute goal from Allan Nielsen handed us the trophy against Leicester City.

Managed by Ron Noades, pictured right, Brentford are currently sitting mid-table in Division Two. After an unbeaten first four games, Bees were stung at home 6-2 by Bristol Rovers but have since recovered with a draw at high-flying Wycombe and beat Bristol City to set up this tie with Spurs.

Meanwhile, after Wednesday night's results, we were placed handily in sixth in the Premiership on the same points total as Arsenal and Liverpool after four games.
