Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.

1    WEDNESDAY

1899    We win for the first time at Manchester United – then known as Newton Heath – when we knock them out of the FA Cup at Bank Street after a first round replay. We progressed 5-3 after a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

2014    Paulinho’s goal (pictured, above) gives us a 1-1 draw at Hull.

2    THURSDAY

Harry Winks’s 21st birthday.

1928    Winger Tommy Harmer born in Hackney. Known as ‘Harmer the Charmer’ he started out with us as a junior and went on to play over 200 senior games for Spurs.

1969    Future Spurs and England midfielder Tim Sherwood born in St Albans.

3    FRIDAY

1979    Winger Tony Galvin makes his Spurs debut at home to Manchester City.

2013    Gareth Bale’s goal wins it for us at West Bromwich Albion.

4    SATURDAY

SPURS v MIDDLESBROUGH, Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 5.30pm

1990    Gary Lineker scores three – one from the penalty spot – as we beat Norwich City 4-0 in Division One at the Lane. We finish third that season.

2004    We are 3-0 up at half-time against 10-man Manchester City in our FA Cup replay – yet lose 4-3!

5    SUNDAY

1927    Our home Division One game with Sunderland is the first featuring Spurs to be broadcast on BBC Radio. Unfortunately we lose 2-0.

2002    We knock Bolton out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage, winning 4-0.

6    MONDAY

1965    Ron Henry scores his one and only goal for the club – the winner at home to eventual champions Manchester United.

1982    We mark the official opening of the West Stand with a 6-1 win over Wolves. Ricky Villa scores a hat-trick.

7    TUESDAY

1891    We beat Orion Gymnasium 7-1 in the Middlesex Senior Cup. If you were there can you let us know the names of our goalscorers?

1935    Wales international and ‘Double’ winner Cliff Jones (pictured, below) born in Swansea. Happy birthday, Cliff!

8    WEDNESDAY

Anton Walkes’s 20th birthday.

1958    Both teams and the crowd stand silently in the pouring rain in memory of the Busby Babes following the Munich air crash two days before our home game with Sunderland. Bobby Smith then scores a hat-trick in our 5-1 win.

2009    Goalless at home to Arsenal.

9    THURSDAY

1898    We overcome Sussex 2-1 away in a friendly.

2014    Emmanuel Adebayor’s lone strike is enough to win it for us at home to Everton.

10    FRIDAY

1986    We beat a Jersey Select XI 7-0 in St Helier. Clive Allen scores twice.

1990    David Howells and Gary Lineker on target in our 2-1 win at Chelsea.

11    SATURDAY

LIVERPOOL v SPURS, Premier League, at Anfield, 5.30pm

1907    We finally knock Blackburn Rovers out of the FA Cup after a second replay in round two. We also needed three games to eliminate Hull City in the first round – and then got hammered 4-0 at Notts County in the third!

2012    Ryan Nelsen makes his Spurs debut in a 5-0 home win over Newcastle United.

12    SUNDAY

1944    Wartime league guest player Jack Rowley scores seven times in our 8-1 Football League South win at Luton Town.

1966    Three goals for Alan Gilzean as we beat Burnley 4-3 at the Lane in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

13    MONDAY

Georges-Kevin Nkoudou’s 22nd birthday.

1897    We entertain our future ‘nursery’ club Northfleet in the Southern League and win 5-0. Bob ‘Topsy’ Clements bags three.

1915    Goalkeeper John Eadon makes his league debut for us at Middlesbrough. We lose 7-5!

14    TUESDAY

Christian Eriksen’s 25th birthday.

1953    We win 3-0 at Halifax Town in the FA Cup.

2013    Gareth Bale (pictured, below) scores in the last minute of each half to give us a 2-0 home Europa League win over Olympique Lyonnais.

15    WEDNESDAY

1902    Winger Alan Haig-Brown makes his debut at home to West Ham United. The former public schoolboy and Corinthians player stays with us as an amateur and only played as a hobby, going on to make just three more Southern League appearances for us.

2011    Our first away win in the Champions League comes against AC Milan when Peter Crouch bags the only goal at the San Siro.

16    THURSDAY

KAA GENT v SPURS, UEFA Europa League, round of 32, at Ghelamco Arena, 6pm (UK)

1957    Third Division Bournemouth knock us out of the FA Cup with a 3-1 triumph at Dean Court. We finish second in Division One that season.

1999    Steffen Iversen lobs future Spurs goalkeeper Neil Sullivan at Wimbledon as we reach the League Cup Final on a one goal aggregate.

17    FRIDAY

1898    John Cameron appointed Spurs boss.

2001    We beat Stockport County 4-0 in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Simon Davies scores twice.

18    SATURDAY

1924    The Prince of Wales attends our game with Oxford University at White Hart Lane, played in aid of the local hospital named after him.

1961    A crowd of 65,474 watch our fifth round cup tie at Villa. We win 2-0.

19    SUNDAY

FULHAM v SPURS, Emirates FA Cup, fifth round, at Craven Cottage, 2pm

1977    Northern Ireland international Gerry Armstrong scores his first Spurs goal – but we lose 2-1 at Leeds. We would be relegated at the end of the season.

2015    A 1-1 UEFA Cup draw at home to Fiorentina. Roberto Soldado gives us the lead

20    MONDAY

1904    We are losing 1-0 at home to Villa in the cup when a pitch invasion forces the game to be abandoned. As a punishment, the game is replayed at Villa Park – where we win by the only goal.

1940    Birthday greetings to Jimmy Greaves who was born on this day at East Ham.

21    TUESDAY

1989    Nayim (pictured, below, with the FA Cup in 1991) makes his debut at home to Norwich City. We win 2-1.

2010    Two late Roman Pavlyuchenko goals in a 3-0 triumph at Wigan.

22    WEDNESDAY

1933    Bobby Smith born in Lingdale, North Yorkshire.

1986    David Howells makes a goalscoring debut in a 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

23    THURSDAY

SPURS v KAA GENT, UEFA Europa League, round of 32, at Wembley Stadium, 8.05pm

Luke Amos’s 20th birthday.

1923    Future England international centre-half Harry Clarke born in Woodford and would join us in March, 1949.

2014    We go down to the only goal at Chris Hughton’s Norwich.

24    FRIDAY

Anthony Georgiou’s 20th birthday.

Connor Ogilvie’s 21st birthday.

2002    We lose 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup Final at Cardiff. Heavy rain means that the roof is closed – so technically the match is played indoors.

2008    Jonathan Woodgate’s extra time header sees us lift the League Cup at Wembley with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea.

25    SATURDAY

2003    Loyal club servant Johnny Wallis dies after a Spurs career that started as a player and continued in various off-field roles between 1936-1994.

2016     We gain our revenge over Fiorentina with a 3-0 Europa League win at the Lane. Ryan Mason opens the scoring.

26    SUNDAY

SPURS v STOKE CITY, Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 1.30pm

2009    Giovani dos Santos scores his first Spurs goal as we draw 1-1 at home with Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Cup.

2011    Sad day as our former centre-half Dean Richards dies following illness.

27    MONDAY

1954    David Dunmore makes his debut in a 3-0 win at Arsenal. George Robb nets twice.

1971    Martin Chivers (pictured, above, with Bill Nicholson) bags a brace against Aston Villa to win us the League Cup at Wembley.

28    TUESDAY

1942    Chelsea defeated 2-0 in the war time Football League South. George Ludford scores both.

1970    We win 2-1 at Newcastle in Division One. Martin Chivers and Jimmy Pearce score our goals.
