26 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Kieran McKenna said the intensity with which our Under-18s got forward was one of the most pleasing aspects of Saturday’s pre-season friendly win over MK Dons.
Two goals apiece from Marcus Edwards and Ryan Loft with further strikes from Zenon Stylianides, Keanan Bennetts and Charlie Hayford gave our youngsters a comfortable 7-0 victory at Hotspur Way.
Several first year scholars were involved in the game, joining some of our more experienced campaigners at Under-18 level, as we found the net four times in the first period and three times in the second.
For Under-18s Coach Kieran, it was an impressive performance on the back of a number of weeks’ hard graft on the training pitches.
“It’s been a really pleasing start to pre-season,” he reflected. “At this stage we’re looking to get everyone up to a certain level of fitness so they can cope with the demands of the season ahead but more importantly we’re trying to get technically sharp and lay down some principles for how we’re going to play throughout the year.
“We’ve recently had a pre-season training camp out in Belgium with a high-level competitive game against Brugge and then another good training week this week, so it’s nice to finish it off with a game.
“It was a little bit one-sided against MK Dons but credit to the players for the way they approached it. They made the game comfortable and enjoyable for themselves in terms of the intensity that they played at and in the first half in particular we scored a couple of really good goals, so overall I’ve been pleased with what we’ve seen so far.”
