Spurs 5-1 Sunderland - Ade's reward

Emmanuel Adebayor was delighted to banish the memory of a tough couple of weeks with a two-goal showing against Sunderland.

Our Togolese target man returned to the fray in Monday night’s 5-1 thrashing of Gus Poyet’s side after missing our previous three games in all competitions through injury.

It took him less than half an hour to restore his name to the scoresheet, nudging home Christian Eriksen’s cross to cancel out Lee Cattermole’s earlier opener.

And after sweeping home his second of the game following Harry Kane’s partially-blocked effort to make it 4-1, Ade was thrilled that his hard work on the road to recovery paid dividends.

“When I’m injured I keep working hard, I keep focussed,” he said. “In life, when you work hard towards something you will always get your reward. I got the reward today so I’m very pleased, but I’m more happy for the three points because this has been a difficult week.

“For me the most important thing was to win the game as a team and, to be honest, it’s a job well done and we are all very happy.”

With five games remaining this season, Ade believes our five-star showing at the Lane can be the catalyst for a flourishing end to the campaign.

“We made it quite difficult for ourselves in the first half,” he added. “Sunderland scored an early goal and they made it tough for us, but we still believed and we came back strongly and played well.

“To be honest, from now until the end of the season it’s going to be fun football. We just have to try and enjoy ourselves and the more we enjoy ourselves the more we’ll have a result like this.”
