Spurs 4-0 Watford - Mauricio's reaction

Sat 08 April 2017, 16:30|Tottenham Hotspur

The message was loud and clear from Mauricio Pochettino and the team after another fabulous display to topple Watford 4-0 at the Lane on Saturday.

Dele Alli broke the deadlock with the first of four fine goals on 33 minutes as we made it six wins on the trot in the Premier League, matching the Club’s best in the Premier League era.

Eric Dier’s piledriver and Heung-Min Son’s 25-yarder made it 3-0 before the break with Son’s second, a sweet half-volley from Kieran Trippier’s cross, completing the 4-0 scoreline 10 minutes in the second half.

It could have been more as we struck the woodwork twice in the first half and then Son was denied a hat-trick by the crossbar late in the game. Sonny missed another golden chance for his treble and Harry Kane, back in action and off the bench for the final half-hour, rattled the crossbar again with the last kick of the game.

“It was an excellent win and I’m very happy, very pleased,” said Mauricio. “The performance was fantastic and we feel very proud.

“From the beginning Watford were motivated to play well and showed good energy but from the moment we started to dominate the game we started to create chances and we fully deserved to win in the end.

“We keep pushing. We’re in a very good position, second in the table and now we’ll go home, be calm and watch the game!”

It says a lot about your trust in the players that Harry Kane was fit, yet he started on the bench…
Mauricio: “Football is about the collective. For us, it’s a reality that we have 24, 25 players and we must make them all feel important. Our badge is most important, our Club is most important, our fans, we have to show respect and play like a team always, win or lose, you must always show you are a team.”

The win equals our best of six on the trot in the Premier League and 11 home league wins on the trot is now equal third in the Club’s history going back to 1908!
Mauricio: “We must keep doing well, we must keep pushing and at the end of the season when everything is finished we’ll realise what we’ve done. Now it’s difficult to stop your mind to think about these things which are of course important but our focus is to be ready to win the next game.”

That is the drive taking us forward…
Mauricio: “Yes, that is our mentality.”
