Spurs 3-1 Forest - Mauricio's verdict

Wed 24 September 2014, 23:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino reeled off the positives after our 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.

Championship leaders Forest provided the tough test we all expected and took the lead on 61 minutes when Jorge Grant slotted home from close range.

We kept plugging away and the introduction of Harry Kane and Ryan Mason off the bench on 64 minutes proved key.

Ryan curled home a beauty from 30 yards to level the scores on 72 minutes - his first senior goal - Roberto Soldado diverted Andros Townsend’s shot home for 2-1 on 83 and Harry finished clinically from another substitute Erik Lamela’s pass in injury time.

“It was difficult, Forest were unbeaten until tonight,” said Mauricio. “I’m happy for the players because when we were 1-0 down we had a very good reaction.

“I’m happy with the victory and the performance, for the reaction and the character showed by the team.

“I’m also pleased for Ryan because last season he suffered a lot from injuries, he’s a young player, a talent from the Academy.

“Our Academy is very good and I congratulate everyone in the Academy because he’s another talent.

“Also, thanks to our supporters because they supported us and backed us in the difficult moment.

“I’m happy we’re through to the next round and we are now focused on Saturday.”

We’re at home again in the fourth round with Brighton making the trip to the Lane. Fourth round ties are played on October 28-29 - as soon as we know the date of our match, we’ll let you know through our usual channels.
