Tim Sherwood was delighted with a quickfire start that paved the way for maximum points against Villa in our Premier League finale at the Lane on Sunday.
Harry Kane went close twice before Paulinho opened the scoring on 14 minutes.
We didn’t look back from there and Paulinho went close again before we doubled the lead as Nathan Baker turned Danny Rose’s cross into his own net on 35 minutes.
We didn’t have to wait long for 3-0 as just three minutes later, Gabriel Agbonlahor handled Sandro’s shot and Emmanuel Adebayor fired home from the penalty spot.
Chances were few and far between in the second half but the job was done and the victory took to us 69 points, a final position of sixth in the Premier League and secured a place in the Europa League next season.
“The lads did brilliantly,” said Tim.
“We’ve been criticised over the season for starting slowly but I didn’t think that was the case today, we could have been three up by the time we scored the first and once Paulinho scored, it was comfortable for us.
“I was delighted with the players’ application and it was game-over by half-time.
“It was also imperative to keep a clean sheet and Hugo has deserved that over the period of the season and how he’s performed. It was a good way to end the season.”
