Spurs 3-0 Tromso IL - Andre's view
20 September 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Andre Villas-Boas praised the 'professional attitude' of the team after a convincing 3-0 win against Tromso IL in our opening fixture in Group K of the Europa League on Thursday night.
Jermain Defoe struck on 21 and 29 minutes as we took control from the first whistle and Christian Eriksen completed the job with a wonderful first goal for the club, a 25-yarder angled into the top corner for a 3-0 scoreline at the Lane.
The Norwegian side defended stoutly and got numbers behind the ball but offered little going forward - reflected in 71-29 possession and 19-2 shots in our favour.
“It was an important win,” reflected Andre.
“We made changes from the team that played in the Premier League but the players played really well.
“It was a good response from everyone, a great professional attitude from the boys who had the experience last season of approaching this competition in a serious way.
“We wanted the 3-0 (final scoreline) to feel completely at home with the result.
“We scored great goals with great assists. Defoe is the goalscorer we all know and he has the ability to make the difference.”
Meanwhile, Andre reported that Danny Rose would be re-assessed after departing in the first half with an ankle injury and that Mousa Dembele ‘should be fine’ after he was forced off following a tackle in the second half. Andre also said that Younes Kaboul came off with five minutes remaining after feeling muscle tightness.
In the other match in Group K, FC Sheriff and Anji drew 0-0 in Moldova.
