25 October 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino was left disappointed and surprised at our second half display as we let a 2-0 lead slip against West Ham in the Carabao Cup.

We looked in complete control of the fourth round tie at Wembley as goals from Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli gave us that two-goal advantage at the break.

Few alarm bells were ringing in the opening exchanges of the second half until Andre Ayew pulled a goal back on 55 minutes. That goal changed the game completely. Ayew levelled from close range five minutes later and Angelo Ogbonna headed home what turned out to be the winner with 70 minutes on the clock.

“I feel very disappointed because in the second half we were a different team from the first half,” said Mauricio. “We lost focus and allowed them to come back into the game.

“The way we then conceded the goals made it difficult to come back and turn the game around again.

“I’m a little surprised with our performance in the second half but sometimes this happens in football. That’s the cup. You can never be relaxed. It’s impossible in football until the final whistle to think the game is over.

“It’s difficult to explain. We must fight and be aggressive until the end. We lost the game for different reasons and now we have to be relaxed, calm, try to analyse why and then try to be competitive against Manchester United on Saturday.”
