Spurs 2-2 Fulham U18s - John hails 'outstanding game'

11 November 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

John McDermott hailed “an outstanding game of youth football” following our Under-18s’ 2-2 draw with Fulham at the weekend.

Goals from Josh Onomah and Shayon Harrison saw us recover from a 1-0 first half deficit at the Training Centre, before Fulham restored parity from the spot.

There were chances at both ends, and Academy Manager John was impressed with what he saw.

“Both teams went for it, both hit the post, there were penalty appeals – I thought it was an outstanding game of youth football,” he said.

“Both teams had some really, really good players. Our 11 players tested every one of their 11 and vice versa.

“We could have scored, they could have scored. We missed some good chances and their keeper made some really good saves.

“I enjoyed watching the game and I enjoyed being part of it.”

John was also pleased with the contribution of Will Miller, who replaced the equally impressive Harry Winks in the heart of our midfield at half-time.

Will played his part in the build-up to both our goals and although he was also responsible for conceding the penalty from which the visitors levelled the score, John hailed the young midfielder’s performance.

“Will has had a bit of a knee problem this week so that’s why he only played for 45 minutes. We’ve been working quite a lot on Will being more dogged in his defending. He gave the penalty away as well, but he was trying to do what he’s been asked to do but just made a bit of an error on it.

“I was really pleased with Harry Winks, who’s on the comeback trail, as well. I thought he was stylish and effective.”
