Mauricio Pochettino declared his satisfaction after Saturday’s friendly win against Schalke.
Goals in each half from Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado secured victory against the team that finished third in the Bundesliga last season.
It might have been more as well but for Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Farhmann, who made fine saves to deny Lewis Holtby, Andros Townsend, Sandro and Cristian Ceballos. Former Spur Kevin Prince Boateng replied for Schalke in the 80th minute.
“It was a tough game, Schalke are a very good team and we can only say congratulations to the players,” said Mauricio. “We had some good periods in the game. We played well.
“The team is showing a lot of energy. This is our style, our philosophy and now we have a week to go until the start of the season.”
Eric Dier impressed on his debut and the 20-year-old slotted seamlessly into central defence alongside Younes Kaboul.
“Eric is still young but he has a lot of potential. He did well, we’re very pleased and now we recover, one day’s rest and we then train hard all week to prepare for West Ham,” added Mauricio, who enjoyed his own ‘special moment’ when he was introduced to the 34,730 crowd with new signings Eric, Ben Davies and Michel Vorm before kick-off.
“It was our first time in front of our fans at White Hart Lane and it was fantastic. I say thank-you to all of them.”
