Spurs 2-1 Saints U18s - Kieran's verdict

24 November 2014|Tottenham Hotspur

Kieran McKenna was pleased with the response of our Under-18s as they recovered from a sluggish first period and subsequent goal conceded to claim victory against Southampton.

Having struggled to win the battle in midfield during the first half, we gifted Saints forward Chris Regis the chance to fire his side ahead in the 61st minute at the Training Centre on Saturday.

He duly converted, but we battled on and two goals from substitute Shayon Harrison on his return from injury saw us run out 2-1 winners in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League.

Reflecting on the contest, Under-18s Coach Kieran said: “The first half was disappointing. We weren’t our usual selves in terms of intensity and alertness and concentration off the ball, but we spoke about that at half-time and it was a really good response in the second half.

“We had some really good individual performances.”

On brace-scorer Shayon, Kieran added: “He’s missed a couple of weeks, but we’ve been doing a lot of work with him, speaking about getting inside the frame of the goal from crosses and being in there at the business end.

“Having come on and got his two goals he’ll be pleased and hopefully it’ll give him a good platform to kick on again now.”
