Spurs 2-0 Norwich - Gylfi's double delight

15 September 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Gylfi Sigurdsson echoed Andre Villas-Boas' view that our pressing game was key to Saturday’s 2-0 win against Norwich.

The midfielder played a starring role as we made it three wins in four at the start of the Premier League with a dominant display at the Lane.

Starting on the left of our forward three in a 4-2-3-1 system, Gylfi provided the finishes after two fluent moves picked the Canaries apart.

Debutant Christian Eriksen played his part in both goals, sliding an inch-perfect pass for Gylfi to convert the opener on 28 inutes before picking out Paulinho, who crossed for a tap in four minutes after the break.

“It was lovely to get the three points and we kept another clean sheet, which is really important for the team as well,” said Gylfi.

"It was important to score the first goal and to get the 1-0 lead, but at 1-0 they are always still in the game, so it was great to score the second goal and kill the game off.

“I thought we were really good in the first half, really compact, won the ball in their half consistently and that gave us a lot of freedom to play. We kept the pressure on and finished the job off in the second half.”

Gylfi was denied a spectacular hat-trick goal when John Ruddy clawed a 25-yarder out of the top corner and he was eventually replaced on 79 minutes.

"I wanted that hat-trick but it wasn’t to be," added Gylfi. "I had a couple of knocks on international duty that flared up in the second half, so sadly I couldn’t continue. Hopefully next time I'll get the hat-trick."
