Spurs 2-0 Juventus - Mauricio's reaction
05 August 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Just like after our pre-season matches in the USA, Mauricio Pochettino reiterated that the result was secondary to the performance against Juventus, although he did afford himself a little smile after the 2-0 victory at Wembley.
“We all like to win, certainly more than lose, but today it’s not most important,” he said after a goal in each half from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen secured an impressive win against the Italian champions.
To that end, Hugo Lloris, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Ben Davies and Eric Dier all completed a full shift, Mousa Dembele and Christian played 89 minutes and Harry got another 78 under his belt.
The only down side was seeing Kieran Trippier limp off with an ankle injury five minutes before half-time – Kyle Walker-Peters played the rest of the game.
Mauricio added: “The most important thing is the performance and trying to get fit. In pre-season you know the team is working the day before (a match) and that’s not a good reference, the most important reference is the feeling you can get and then how you play.
“I’m happy with the performance, many players improved a lot and reached another level, step by step. Now we have one clear week to work hard and arrive in perfect condition at Newcastle.”
What pleased you most?
Mauricio: “Everything. It was good to play at Wembley before the start of the season, good to believe in the way we play and recover the feeling in the way we play and for me, that’s most important, not the result. Okay, the result gives you more belief but it was about the performance, not the result.”
