Spurs 1-1 WBA - Tim's verdict
26 December 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Tim Sherwood pinpointed West Brom's quick equaliser as the key moment in our Boxing Day draw at the Lane.
Christian Eriksen opened the scoring with a fine free-kick on 36 minutes but the Baggies responded through Jonas Olsson just two minutes later.
“The shame is that we scored a goal, a fantastic free-kick from Christian, but before we drew breath they equalised,” reflected Tim.
“It was a poor goal to concede as well. We just wanted to get to half-time and have the chance to re-organise.”
Christian curled over the defensive wall and home off the underside of the crossbar before Olsson poked home from close range from Liam Ridgewell’s free-kick.
We controlled the majority of the second half and ended with 20 efforts at goal to West Brom’s seven, although Ben Foster was only forced into serious action once, a flying save to keep out Kyle Walker’s piledriver.
The Baggies set-out in a 5-3-2 system and their packed defensive ranks proved tough to penetrate.
“West Brom came here to do a job and they did it well,” added Tim.
“We didn’t carve them open enough and didn’t show enough quality in the final third, that was disappointing.
“It’s important we believe and risk a little more, playing one-touch in around the final third might open things up for us.
“Today, it just didn’t fall for us. It’s onto the next though. We can’t dwell on this one. We have to show character and come back again.”
