Mauricio Pochettino was left frustrated after Besiktas grabbed a last-gasp equaliser in Thursday night’s Europa League Group C encounter at the Lane.
Harry Kane fired us ahead after 27 minutes and the brilliance of Hugo Lloris kept that lead intact until a penalty awarded against Vlad Chiriches for handball allowed Demba Ba to level from the spot with 89 minutes on the clock.
Hugo, skipper on the night, made a series of top-drawer saves to keep the Turkish giants at bay - denying Olcay Sahan twice and Ba from point-blank range - while at the other end, Tolga Zengin had to be at his best to keep out two blasts from Harry at it ended 1-1.
“At the beginning it was an open match, we scored in the first half and tried to manage the game,” reflected Mauricio.
“We had opportunities to score the second goal but we need to recognise they had chances as well.
“Hugo made two or three big saves and their goalkeeper saved two. We were disappointed to concede the penalty because we all believed it was going to be three points for us.
“We need to look forward now and try to get three points against Asteras.”
We meet Asteras at the Lane in Matchday Three. Asteras beat Partizan Belgrade 2-0 on Thursday and top Group C.
