Spurs 1-0 Swansea - Andre's view
25 August 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Andre Villas-Boas was delighted with the 'winning mentality' showed by the team after Swansea again pushed us all the way at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Just like last season’s encounter at the Lane - which ended in the same scoreline - Swansea proved a tough nut to crack, organised, resolute and with goalkeeper Michel Vorm in fine form as we racked up 21 efforts at goal to Swansea’s seven.
In the end, Roberto Soldado made it four goals in his first three games for us with his second-successive match-winning penalty in the Premier League.
Andros Townsend was brought down by Jonjo Shelvey and the Spanish striker made no mistake from the spot, sending Vorm the wrong way in the 58th minute.
That made it three wins, seven goals and three clean sheets in the first week of the campaign - 1-0 at Palace, 5-0 at Dinamo Tbilisi in the Europa League and now 1-0 against the Swans.
“At the moment, these are excellent signs, signs of a team that is mature and knows what to do to gain the right result,” said Andre.
“You never know what can happen in the future but at the moment we’re showing a winning mentality and that’s helping us to get results. It’s a good start.
“We deserved to win, created lots of chances, were sound defensively and that’s why we had so much of the ball against a team that normally dominates other teams.
“Our shape was tremendous, Capoue protecting and Paulinho’s workrate was immense. I’m really happy with the performance.”
