Spurs 1-0 Saints - Mauricio's verdict

Sun 05 October 2014, 17:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino felt we deserved the three points after our 1-0 success against Southampton on Sunday.

Christian Eriksen’s fine strike in the 40th minute was enough as we edged a close encounter at the Lane.

We had the better of the first half as Christian and Erik Lamela both tested Fraser Forster before Christian’s goal, a low drive into the bottom corner from 20 yards after good work from Emmanuel Adebayor and Nacer Chadli.

Nacer then struck the foot of the post just before the break.

Southampton’s best chances came in the second half as Hugo Lloris saved superbly from Victor Wanyama and then a late scare as Sadio Mane somehow missed the target from close range.

“It was difficult because Southampton arrived here full of confidence and with a great start to the season,” said Mauricio.

“But we gave our all and congratulations to the players, they did a good job.

“It was a tough game and we deserved the three points. I’m happy with the win.

“For us, it’s important to still improve. We are going the right way, maybe the last couple of games it was difficult to get positive results but we’re growing (as a team) and developing our style.”
