It was a case of 'job done' for Mauricio Pochettino after our 1-0 win against Partizan Belgrade at the Lane on Thursday night.

Benji Stambouli netted his first goal for the club to take maximum points in Matchday Five of Europa League, Group C and secure qualification for the knockout stage of the competition.

The midfielder fired home the rebound on 49 minutes after Roberto Soldado’s effort cannoned back off the post.

The victory sent us to the top group as Besiktas were held to a 2-2 draw by Asteras Tripolis.

We now travel to Istanbul on Matchday Six knowing that as long as we avoid defeat, we will top the group.

“It’s job done and I’m happy, I’m pleased for our supporters and our players,” reflected Mauricio.

“We played better than Partizan and deserved the victory.

“The second half was good and we created a lot of chances. The score was only 1-0 but we deserved more. We now go to Besiktas and play for the win, but the job is done and we go to the next round.”

Mauricio was pleased for goalscorer Benji who clinched the win after we’d fired in 19 efforts to Partizan’s nine and enjoyed 66 per cent possession.

“It’s always a nice moment when a player scores his first goal for the club. It was a special goal for Benji and I’m happy for him.”

There were also words of praise for Harry Winks after the 18-year-old midfielder became the latest player to progress through our Academy ranks to make his first team debut - he was introduced off the bench with five minutes remaining.

“We have a lot of talent in the Academy,” said Mauricio. “Our people work very hard in the Academy and it’s important for the club to use our talent.

“Tottenham identify with these players and it’s important to bring through players from the Academy. It’s always special, your debut. I know it was a special night for Harry.”
