Spurs 1-0 Everton - Tim's verdict

Sun 09 February 2014, 19:31|Tottenham Hotspur

Tim Sherwood was delighted with how the players responded in the second half to secure a 'massive win' against Everton on Sunday.

Emmanuel Adebayor struck a fine winning goal on 65 minutes to leapfrog us over the Toffees back into fifth place in the Premier League.

Everton had the better of the first half and Hugo Lloris had to be at his best to deny Leon Osman in the eighth minute – one of four early chances for the midfielder as the Merseysiders started impressively.

We were much better after the break and scored what turned out to be the winner through Kyle Walker’s smart thinking – the full-back clipped a quickly-taken free-kick into Ade who controlled on his chest, shrugged off Seamus Coleman and drilled left-footed into the bottom corner from 16 yards.

“It was a slow start again and Hugo kept us in the game,” reflected Head Coach Tim.

“The lads all know the game plan but we didn’t apply it well enough in the first half.

“In the second half we put more pressure on the ball higher up the pitch, that put Everton under pressure, we kept the ball better and created chances ourselves.

“The first and second half were chalk and cheese and we’re delighted to come away with a win. They didn’t have a shot in the second half. It’s a massive win for us.”

As for the goal, Tim added: “It was a fantastic pass, Kyle was very bright there, he saw Ade pull away and he took it in his stride, held them off and smashed it in. That’s what we expect at the moment from Ade.”
