Spurs 1-0 Cardiff - Tim's verdict

Sun 02 March 2014, 22:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Tim Sherwood conceded we weren't at our best but was delighted to bag maximum points against Cardiff City on Sunday.

Roberto Soldado struck the only goal of the game in the 28th minute, latching onto Emmanuel Adebayor’s pass and finishing clinically after Andros Townsend’s break from deep.

Steven Caulker rattled the crossbar minutes later and that was the closest Cardiff came to an equaliser.

We controlled possession in a game of few clear-cut chances, Harry Kane forced a fine late save from David Marshall and at the other end, Michael Dawson led the defensive line as the visitors looked for a more aerial route to goal later on.

“The performance wasn’t great and I’m not going to insult anyone’s intelligence by suggesting otherwise,” reflected Tim.

“We weren’t fantastic, weren’t free-flowing, but we managed to get in front, Robbie scored and we’re all delighted about that.

“You can never be completely comfortable as they were hitting balls into the box, a wrong bounce of the ball and they could stick one away.

“I thought the boys stood up to it and I was confident every time the ball went into the box that one of our players would put their head on it, and invariably it was Michael Dawson.

“I thought we earned the right, we showed them that we’re up for the fight and we battled through. It’s three points and we’re happy with that.”
