Spurs 0-1 Leicester U18s - Kieran's verdict

Kieran McKenna said it’s important for our Under-18s to look at the bigger picture after Saturday’s late defeat to Leicester.
We’d been pushing for a breakthrough in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League contest ourselves when Kairo Mitchell finished off a swift Foxes counter-attack in the 89th minute to steal a 1-0 win for his side at the Training Centre.
It was a cruel blow at the end of a second half in which we’d controlled the possession much more than we had done before the break, but Under-18s Coach Kieran stressed that it’s important for the players to analyse what they could have done better across the whole game in order to further their development.
“Obviously it’s a really disappointing way to lose, especially so late in the game at a stage when we were chasing the winner,” he said.
“We got caught with one long cleared ball so it’s a sickening way to lose, but that will not be the main thing we reflect on – we’ll look at the performance across the 90 minutes.
“In the first half we didn’t impose our style well enough, we allowed Leicester to make it the type of game that they wanted it to be. The second half was much better, we played with intent and tried to make it our type of game.
“Leicester were tough to handle with two fast centre-forwards, but we’d expect the boys to be able to deal with that and then to impose our way on the game.
“Obviously the goal was very disappointing at the end, but we’ll look at the whole performance.”
