Sportingbet preview: Internationals

Our betting partners Sportingbet take a look at the markets available for this week's internationals...

International football grabs the midweek spotlight and having opted out of the Nations Cup, England make the trip to Copenhagen to take on Denmark on Wednesday night.

Inevitably Fabio Capello’s squad has been hit by withdrawals but his side remain 6/5 favourites to add another friendly win to his international CV. The Danes are 2/1 to win on their own patch after failing to convince in their only competitive game there since the World Cup, as they needed an injury time winner to see off Iceland.

The draw meanwhile is an 11/5 shot but if you fancy a goalscorer instead, how about backing the same strike partnership as Don Fabio himself – with Wayne Rooney available at 5/1 for the first goal and Darren Bent 11/2 in the same market.

The other four home nations go toe-to-toe in the freshly revived Nations – or Celtic – Cup, so expect some fireworks as old rivalries are renewed at both the Aviva Stadium and Hampden Park.

The Republic of Ireland are the shortest price in the competition at 13/20 to make it an unhappy start for Gary Speed as Wales boss, with the away win on Tuesday priced up at 4/1. A draw in the round robin group stage would give either Scotland or Northern Ireland the chance to seize the initiative, but could earn punters 12/5 on their money.

The betting is far closer in the Wednesday night clash, with the Scots 6/5 favourites to follow up the strong home performance against Spain with victory. Craig Levein’s men lost 3-2 in that Euro 2012 qualifier but earned plenty of plaudits, so a similar showing would surely be too much for 2/1 Northern Ireland.

The Norn Iron can boast an away victory over Slovenia this season, however, so should not be taken lightly and at 11/5 for the draw, could be worth backing for a result.

There are a host of other internationals this midweek including Germany v Italy, France v Brazil and Portugal v Argentina , and as ever, you can rely on Sportingbet to be betting pre-match and in:play until the last ball is kicked. Good luck!
