Jermaine Jenas said the atmosphere and occasion surrounding our games here in South Africa sets them apart from normal pre-season contests.JJ made his first appearance of the preparation period against Kaizer Chiefs in Durban on Saturday, playing his part from the heart of midfield in the 2-1 victory at the close to capacity ABSA Stadium.
"The fans made it a very good occasion and they were very loud throughout the game," reflected the England international. "We got what we wanted really, a decent performance, extra fitness and the win - it was a good day's work.
"It atmosphere gives everybody a lift and there was a bit of bite out there. It wasn't like a lot of pre-season friendlies, there were two teams who wanted to win badly and you could see that.
"It did take a little while get going and we had to adjust to the conditions. Once a few tackles went in and there was a goal, the fans lifted the place and there was a reaction on the pitch.
"I got a good 90 minutes under my belt and felt strong towards the end. It is going well for me," added JJ, who suspects there will be another testing examination to come against Orlando Pirates at Newlands on Tuesday.
"They finished higher in the league, but it tough games we want with the season just around corner.
"It has been great, it is a fantastic place to come and an experience you will not easily forget."
