Harry Kane was left to reflect on a night he’ll never forget against Asteras Tripolis.
There can’t be many players who have scored their first senior hat-trick, gone in goal and worn the captain’s armband in one match.
Harry did just that!
The young striker opened the scoring with a fine strike from 30 yards and then added the fourth and fifth goals to complete his treble in the Europa League Group C clash at the Lane.
In-between, Erik Lamela scored a wonder ‘Rabona’ strike and a sweet volley as we racked up a 5-0 advantage.
Harry then volunteered to go between the sticks after Hugo Lloris was sent off five minutes from time and we’d already made three substitutions.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep out Jeronimo Barrales’ free-kick as it ended 5-1 at the Lane.
Clutching the matchball afterwards and still wearing Hugo’s shirt, Harry said: “My first hat-trick for Spurs is a special moment and it means the world to me.
“It felt great until the end of the game! It was a shame to let that goal in for Hugo and the defenders but I’m not a keeper and I’ll probably stay on the field from now on! I’ll try to score the goals rather than stop them!
“We needed the win and wanted it in front of our fans. That’s important for us.
“It was good to score the early goal and we built on it from there. Erik’s first goal was great as well and we took that momentum into the second half. Erik’s goal was was crazy, unbelievable technique.
“It was great to get the hat-trick and hopefully it’s the first of many.”
EUROPEAN HAT-TRICKS
Harry became only the 10th player to score a hat-trick in European competition for us.
Roberto Soldado was the last against Anji last season with Jermain Defoe, Gareth Bale, Peter Crouch, Darren Bent, Garth Crooks, Martin Chivers, Alan Gilzean and Cliff Jones also bagging trebles in Europa. ‘Big Chiv’ is the only player to hit two.
