Special moment - Daws
Michael Dawson described his first goal at the Lane in almost four years as ‘a special moment’ as we toppled Reading 3-1 on New Year’s Day.
The captain led by example after we went a goal down in just four minutes against the Royals.
Six minutes later, Michael met Gylfi Sigurdsson’s corner with a glancing header to equalise and take him into double-figures since he joined us in January, 2005.
That was his first strike on home soil since January 27, 2009, when he headed home in a 3-1 win against Stoke in the Premier League.
Goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Clint Dempsey secured our seventh win in nine in the Premier League and made it 10 points out of 12 over the festive period.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve scored here, it’s certainly a special moment from a personal point of view but the three points are the most important thing,” said Michael.
“It would have been better if we’d kept a clean sheet as well but I scored a goal, we got the three points - I couldn’t ask for much more!
“It was always going to be tough and going 1-0 down so early made it even tougher.
“To come back and win 3-1 was quite comfortable in the end, but at 2-1 they had a couple of chances. If one of those had gone in, maybe it would be different. Having said that, maybe we should have scored a few more.
"I thought it was a great team performance.”
