Special gift for Camp Bastion Supporters Club
Our official Supporters Club at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, recently received a special gift from none other than Jermain Defoe.
The striker sent a signed Poppy shirt from our Premier League clash with Manchester City back in November, which marked Remembrance Day. The shirts worn that day were auctioned off to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Now, one of our newest Supporters Groups, who were given their official membership package by Ledley King at our home match with Wigan earlier that month, have a new item to hang on their wall.
The Camp Bastion Official Spurs Supporters Club was established by Flight Lieutenant Tom Cousins, a lifelong Spurs fan, currently serving in Afghanistan.
Workload permitting, the club gets together to watch Spurs matches that are shown on the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS).
Tom said: "The Club has been amazing in its support for the Spurs fans that are away on operational duty. Jermain Defoe sent out a signed Poppy shirt which is on display, alongside our various flags, when we watch the matches.
“Everyone out here is very busy, so the number of supporters that are able to watch the matches varies, but our biggest attendance of the season was 15 for the victory over Arsenal this month.
“On behalf of the Camp Bastion Official Spurs Supporters Club, I would like to say a big thank you to the Club and all of the Spurs fans that have shown their amazing support for the Armed Forces - Come On You Spurs!"
