Special day for young Chinese visitors

31 October 2014|Tottenham Hotspur

The Club had the pleasure of hosting around 60 young people from the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation at Hotspur Way this week.

The charity aims to improve the lives of underprivileged children all over China, and lists David Beckham as one of its Ambassadors.

A group of budding young footballers are currently on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to London, and their visit to Tottenham Hotspur included the chance to take part in a mini football tournament, with coaching from Ledley King and coaches from our Academy.

The young people also got the chance to take a behind-the-scenes look at our state-of-the-art facility, before meeting Kyle Walker and Nabil Bentaleb.

The pair took part in a Q&A session with the group, sharing their experiences of being young players and working their way to representing their countries.

Kyle said: “One thing that I always tell any young player who has ambitions of becoming a pro is that you have to make many sacrifices, as well as putting in the hard work during training.

“It is a great experience for these kids to come here from China and train in the fantastic facilities with have at Spurs, I am sure they will go back better players.”

Nabil added: “It was good to speak to the kids about my experiences of playing in the World Cup and leaving home at a young age to pursue my career in England.

“Hopefully they all take something away from today and work on what they have learnt from people like our coaches and Ledley King.”

Ledley oversaw the young people take part in a mini football tournament, with the two teams of finalists presented with their very own Tottenham Hotspur replica kit.

The Club Ambassador said: “It was a competitive tournament and the kids showed a great attitude and plenty of enthusiasm.

“Some of the players showed good levels of ability, but the main thing for them is to enjoy their football at this age, and they certainly did that.”
