South China lift Senior Shield in HK

Wed 15 January 2014, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Congratulations to our partner club South China FC, who have secured the first silverware of the Hong Kong season - the Senior Shield.

Sasa Kajkut and Andrew Barisic made dream debuts by scoring the goals to clinch the trophy, turning around a 1-0 deficit to beat Sun Pegaus 2-1 at Hong Kong Stadium.

Kajkut levelled midway through the second half after connecting with a neat cross from Vincent Weiji while Barisic sealed the victory in style four minutes later when he lobbed the Pegasus goalkeeper from 20 metres out.

The Senior Shield was founded in 1896 and this is the 31st time South China have won the trophy, the last time was in 2009-10. It has worked as a good-luck charm for the team - the last two times they've won the Senior Shield - 2006 and 2009 - they went on to lift the Hong Kong championship.

The reigning champions, South China are currently second in the Hong Kong First Division. The league campaign continues until May.

We launched an official partnership with South China in November, 2009. They are the most decorated team in Hong Kong with 40 titles, 31 Senior Shields, nine FA Cups and two League Cups.
