Sound Offs: The finishing line

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Daniel Crowhurst: With the dissapointment of being knocked out in both domestic cups, it seems unlikely that we will get into Europe this season. With the end of the season nearing, we now have to focus our minds on next year and how we will not make the same mistake twice. It has not been a disappoining season for Glenn but with a little bit of consistancy, we will begin to show that Spurs are going places. Come on you Spurs!

Tony Lim: It would be a difficult to gain entry into Europe via the Premiership. We have peaked too soon and made costly mistakes. Let's consolidate and focus our resurgence next season onwards. We must build stronger mental character and the will to win crucial games. Mr Hoddle needs to overcome that. Period.

Stan Marky: We have gone from sublime to rediculous since beating Chelsea in the Worthless cup. 4-0, 4-0, 4-0 doesn't lie despite any (genuine) claims in the FA cup loss about mistakes. We got beaten by a Chelsea side who deserved the win. We look like Teddy and Poyet are plain knackered and that's to be expected having played them 100% when available. Sad, but we aren't a good enough squad at present.

John Seeley: I feel that we need another season or two yet before we can mount a serious European challenge even if we manage to creep in at the last league game we just are not strong enough as Man U and Chelsea prove, when the chips are down we just have not got what it takes, the squad is not strong enough or large enough, the football is pretty but has not enough bite.

Des Whelan: What Spurs need is a goal keeper who commands his box and is not stuck to his goal line. A centre half who organises his defence. A stand on the ball and knock the ball around midfielder also a win the ball midfield man. 2 wingers and an out and out centre forward. The system Spurs play at the back is not suited to inexperienced. players. What we need is 2 fullbacks a centre-half and a sweeper with a defensive minded centre midfield player. Spurs need to bring in at least 5 new players next season and offload what appears and seems obvious to all watching them, players who are not mobile enough and players who are not good enough. Two or Three players do all the running and chaseing, while the rest wait on the ball to be won for them is just not good enough, when you lose the ball every player on the pitch should be fighting to get the ball back instead of standing with there hands on their hips shaking their heads when the ball is in the Spurs net.

Alan Marsden: The only way Spurs can qualify for europe now is through the back door. They missed a great opportunity when they lost to Blackburn in the Worthington Cup Final. They need to be more consistant to be able to compete with the best teams in the Premiership, then we may do well in Europe. When we played Chelsea in the semi, we were fantastic so that shows we are on the right road, but it will take time and money to get there. All the best teams have spent big and bought top players, although you have to be sensible when buying players you still have to try for the Best. So although we will not be in Europe next season the future looks bright for the lads at the Lane.

Richard Levene: Another season over and done with. So much expectancy with two great cup runs and good results early on in the league, it's the same old story season after season after season, that us Spurs fans have to sit back and wait for another year to go by whilst the gap widens! Come on the board, this is your chance to be different from your predecessors - splash a bit of cash and lets start to consistently challenge those teams in the top 6. We may have clawed our Tottenham back but now it's time to build on what we have and move forward.

Andy Capaloff: We will probably finish 10th - a great disappointment. But realistically, unless our form improves more than is realistic to expect, we can't hope to move up and even 8th is unrealistic. The only hope is to put some youngsters in. Maybe their youthful vitality is the boost that we need right now.
