Sound Offs: Gus reaction 2

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Rich Lawrence, Whitstable: Why is Hoddle buying older players when he needs to build a team for the future and invest in younger players?

Josh Samad, Hendon: I think Gus is a good signing. He can score goals and has plenty of experience. I think that if we can now sign an entertaining skilful winger then we will be well on the way to Europe.

Adrian Parker, Osaka: I’m in shock, its all happening so fast, I see Hoddle (How I remember telling some mates he’ll come home). I see talent, I see players of the Spurs type being purchased. Poyet will run with the ball at his feet, Teddy will do the same and release it with confidence. It’s all too much for a 31-year-old Spurs fan who was starting to forget what the Spurs I loved looked like, but now, oh now its so, so near!!!! Someone tell Sol, this is Tottenham Hotspur AND WE ARE COMING HOME. P.S.: Hope to see Spurs and England fans in Osaka in 2002.

Ian Horsham, Chingford: Great move, class will always overcome age and at least it means he won't be able to score against us next season.

Nick Witting: Too old! Six years ago we signed Klinsmann. Now its a Chelsea reject. How times change.

Brad Parker, Sutton: I think it’s a fantastic signing. With a player like Poyet who can score goals from midfield, the pressure might ease on Rebrov and let him show the form he had at Kiev. With players like Simon Davies, Willem Korsten and Stephen Carr as well, we'll start next season with the possibility of goals from all over the pitch. This could be the beginning of a Man Utd-like revolution with all the youth coming through to join the old-stagers like Sheringham and Sherwood. Roll on August!!!

Joseph Charles, Watford: When I first knew of Spurs going for Poyet I didn't think it would be a good signing. Not because of his age or his ability as a player (his class is there for all to see), but because I thought he might delay the development of Simon Davies. I was looking forward to a midfield three of Davies, Sherwood and Anderton. However, after listening to Glenn’s reasons for buying Poyet, I have to agree this will be a great signing. He will help us improve now and I'm sure we finish in the top 6 next season with the current crop of players, before Christian Ziege and 1 other come in. Come on you Spurs!

Jeremy Russon, Hook: Gus is a very skilful player who has the capability to turn a match with one moment. He scores some superb goals (remember Sunderland!) and with a strike ratio of better than one in three, he should help us to score more goals. It is the club moving in the right direction - we have an excellent crop of younger players and need experience like Gus and Teddy to complement it. Looking forward to next season and the continued development of the youngsters, particularly Ledley and Alton - I think these two will benefit immensely from playing alongside Gus and Bunjy.

Chris Sees, Dagenham: I think that Gus is the don of a player. He is such a great player, will score his fair share of the goals next season, along with Ted.

Mark and Joe Lloyd, Tillington: The arrival of Gus Poyet would have been extremely exciting at any other time. However, right now it is still overshadowed by the loss of Sol and ANOTHER couple of PR blunders at the club. I also believe that Sol has not been entirely straight throughout this process (Or Mr Andrew hasn't) but isn't it bad enough to lose him at all? Isn't it bad enough to not get a fee for him to replace him with quality? No - we have to upset him on the way out so that his return (a la Teddy) is less likely (I still believe that one or two more quality signings and Sol might even accept the original offer - he just wants to play in a team that can win things. Not does - just CAN).
