Sound Offs: Front or back for Doc? 3
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Matt McClymont, Leicestershire: I think Doherty should play at the back even more now Sol has gone, but we also need a backup defender then if there is a crisis with injuries up front. Doherty can play there with another centre back with Perry.
Phil Greaves, Maldon: I feel that, despite his physical features, which really point to a central defender, Gary has all the makings of a striker. He has a strikers’ instinct, look at the Sunderland game, he scored 2 goals which helped us win the match. In this game he was played up front. Every time he gets a chance in front of goal he takes it. We need options up front, strikers are over valued, and in my view spurs lack goals. Gary can provide these goals. Spurs need to spend big money on the defence with their best defender leaving, whereas up front we are ok, with the likes of Teddy and Rebrov. My point is play Gary up front where he belongs, and save 10 million pounds from buying a striker and replace Sol.
Daniel Holladay, Witham: Without doubt Gary should be a central defender. We have some excellent strikers at the club, and it would be more beneficial to play Gary in defence, which is his best position. Sol Campbell started as a striker and became one of the best defenders in the world, Gary can follow his example. The ability to score goals is a massive bonus, but there is no reason why Gary can't continue this whilst in defence (which is where he seems to score most goals from anyway!!).
