Sonny targeting goals against Hammers

19 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Fresh from a two-goal performance for South Korea this week, the Asian Football of the Year is targeting more of the same when we return to Premier League action against West Ham on Sunday.

Heung-Min Son was back on the scoresheet for his nation as they beat Laos 5-0 in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying on Tuesday, having also set up two goals in last week’s 4-0 triumph against Myanmar.

It came as a timely boost for Sonny, who marked his comeback from a six-week lay-off with a foot injury by making substitute appearances in our last two matches before the international break – against Anderlecht and Arsenal respectively.

Now, after getting match fitness and goals under his belt for South Korea over the last couple of weeks, the lively 23-year-old is eager to face the Hammers at White Hart Lane in a bid to add to his tally at club level and help to secure victory over our London rivals.

“This week (for South Korea against Laos) was my first game in the starting line-up since the injury and I scored two goals, so I’m very happy, I feel very good and I want to score again now,” said Sonny, who has netted three times in four starts since joining us from Bayer Leverkusen in August.

“I’m very happy to score for the national team and I’m very happy to be here at Spurs. I hope to score again for the club because, as an offensive player, when I play I want to score every game. This is normal for me.

“I know this coming match against West Ham is very important for us – I want to score and hopefully we will win.

“I’m confident we can do it because we are very strong. We are at a very good time now, we’re enjoying it, the players are very fit and we want to win every time.

“We feel very, very good and when I see the other players they are all very happy, they smile every time. We are very positive for Sunday and I hope that we can win.”
