Roberto Soldado wants us to bring an abrupt end to Southampton’s winning run this weekend – and start one of our own in the process.
The Spanish striker is mindful of the Saints’ fine start to the season under Ronald Koeman, but has prioritised three points as we seek to build on last Saturday’s hard-fought draw at Arsenal.
“They’re a good team and they have a good dynamic,” said the front man, who played 79 minutes against Besiktas in our 1-1 Europa League draw on Thursday night.
“I think they’ve shown that they can win against difficult teams and it’s just been ‘win, win, win’ for them. They have won their last four matches in the Premier League and are through in the Capital One Cup.
“Their position in the league table is good but, after the 1-1 draw with Arsenal last weekend, we now need a win and three points.”
Roberto played in both matches against the Saints last term as we triumphed 3-2 over the Hampshire side away and at home. And it’s fair to say he’s hoping for more of the same this time around.
“We had two difficult games against Southampton last season but we won both which was very good for the Club,” the 29-year-old added. “We hope we can achieve the same as last season and win against Southampton on Sunday. They are a big team and we need three points to help us get up the table.”
