So long, Deano
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Dean Richards admits he has gone through a period of adjustment since announcing his retirement from football - and has actually quite enjoyed it.
The powerful central defender was forced to call it a day last month on medical grounds due to suffering from balance problems that sometimes occurred after heading the ball.
Deano made 81 appearances in our colours - scoring four goals - after joining from Southampton in September 2001.
"It's been difficult but I've got to get on with things," reflected the 31-year-old when he popped back to Spurs Lodge. "I've had to adjust and, to be honest, have quite enjoyed it. It has been nice to be at home and spend a lot of time with my kids and family.
"I think my wife-to-be is quite liking having me at home as it is giving her a bit more freedom. So I think she is happy.
"We're getting married this summer so we are getting all that sorted out. We will then have a good few holidays and see what happens after that.
"I'm just taking a step back for the time being and not thinking too much about what the future holds. I will worry about that in a few months time."
Dean went on to insist that the support of the club during an uncertain period meant a lot to him.
"The club has been first class and I can have no complaints there. From when I first started having the problems to my retirement the club have backed me all the way and continue to back me now.
"I am delighted with the way I have been treated by everyone at the club."
Dean refuses to be downbeat over the premature curtailing of his career and, as he rightly points out, he has realised his dream and is grateful for the lifestyle the game has afforded him.
"I am going to take fond memories out of my whole career - from leaving school to now. I am lucky, I am one of the privileged ones and that is what I take from it. People keep saying they are sorry about what has happened to me, but I have lived a privileged lifestyle and lived most kids' dreams.
"It was what I dreamed of doing as a kid and I've lived it now," he added, before revealing his pride over having been a Spurs player.
"Every time I wore the shirt I felt proud. One consolation for me looking back is that I've retired at such a fantastic club. It is the sort of club I strived all my life to get to so that is a positive I take out of it.
"I'll always be proud to say that I played for Spurs - always."
