Smith ready for Euro Under-21s challenge
England's Under-21s head to Israel for the European Championship in superb form, and Adam Smith is hoping to play a part in a successful campaign starting with victory over Italy on Wednesday.
Stuart Pearce's side have won their last nine matches - scoring 22 times without reply - and won their qualifying group with ease before beating Serbia in a play-off.
The group stage sees England face Norway and the hosts Israel after their opening fixture against the Italians. Pearce's team are looking to avenge their early exit from the 2011 tournament.
"It’s nice to be named in the squad and now I want to play my way into the starting 11. I’m still on a learning curve, still learning my trade. I played 29 games, 25 in the Championship, so that’s a good season," Smith told tottenhamhotspur.com.
"Recently I've played some good football with the Under-21s. I’ve showed the manager what I can do so hopefully I’ll train well and get a chance in the tournament.
"The game against Israel sold out in no time, so that will be a great experience.
"We’ve already played Norway in the qualifiers in a tough away game and they are a good team. They will up it again in the tournament and that will be tricky. They will all be difficult matches."
