Slabs back in the running

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Jamie Slabber is back in training following the pre-season setback that resulted in him undergoing surgery for the first time.

The 19-year-old suffered a dislocated collar bone on the pre-season trip to Sweden that required an operation to repair muscle damage. It was a huge blow for the striker who was hoping to impress the new management team during the preparation period.

"It was my collar bone, the muscle came off the bone and they had to sew it back - so it was a long old out time out for me," reflected Jamie, who had to reconcile himself to the fact that Lee Barnard - who fractured his collar bone in the same game - has been back playing for some weeks.

"I couldn't believe it, I thought I would be back playing in about three weeks. They said I needed an operation and I was surprised, then they showed me the scans and its gone from there.

"They said if I didn't have it done there would be a 70 per cent chance of it popping out again. Having this means there is a 90 per cent it won't.

"I've never had surgery before, it was the scariest thing ever, but I'm glad it's done now and I just want to crack on now. It's been so annoying, but there have got to be other chances somewhere - I desperately want to get back in and play."

Jamie did admit there was a sense of relief that there was just one forward - reserve striker Edson Silva - among the 15 new recruits of the close season and is aiming to provide back-up to the principal front men.

"It was a relief, strikers came in the season before and we have a good set in Defoe, Kanoute and Keane. The fourth spot is something to aim for and I'm sure the others feel the same."
