Slabs back in the goals

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Jamie Slabber admitted it was something of a relief to find the net again for the reserves against Ipswich Town on Monday evening.

The 19-year-old scored the second goal in the 2-0 victory at Stevenage in what was only his second start of the season following an operation on his shoulder during pre-season that kept the striker out of action for three months.

He was forced to sit and watch while fellow frontmen Lee Barnard and Edson Silva Sousa stole a march on him in the goal stakes, but he is happy to now be off the mark with his first goal for Spurs since January.

"My last goal was while I was playing for AB Copenhagen, while my last one here was against Leicester when I was up against Frank Sinclair and Matt Elliott - I can't remember when that was!" said Jamie, who enjoyed a three-month loan stint at the Danish outfit at the back end of last season.

"It was nice to score again and good to get the three points.

"It has been playing on my mind, but I'm confident in what I can do. It was a bit of a release for me, it wasn't a pretty goal and came off my knee - but a goal is a goal.

"I hope it will be a springboard for me, I'm hoping to stay in the team and do well. It's only my second game back after the injury so I am taking each day as it comes and my shoulder is feeling alright."

Jamie traded in goals at a prolific rate as he graduated through the age groups of the Academy, but stalled slightly last season and scored just four in 14 games at reserve level. He concedes this was a setback, but remains sure his ability to knock in goals is undiminished.

"It's hard, I've scored goals in every age group and to come to a standstill is a shock and you don't really expect it. If you are confident in what you are doing though the goals will always come and you never lose the knack - never lose it."
