Skipper shoots from the lip

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

The wounded Jamie Redknapp insists it is vital that standards are not allowed to drop and the season is finished in as high a position as possible.

The skipper agrees that, with the many positives to have emerged from a difficult season and the emergence of several young players in the first team squad, that the form of the opening weeks of the year must be returned to and the campaign must not draw to a close on a losing note.

"We don't want that to happen," said the 30-year-old. "There have been a lot of positives even though it has been a difficult season and David has done a good job in keeping everyone together.

"We have a lot still to play for in my eyes, there are a lot of young players and we are all competing for places for next season. It is really important that we don't let the standards drop and we must push up the league.

"We have got a decent run in, obviously Arsenal will be a very tough game, but the majority of the harder games have been played now."

Jamie is expected to be back in the starting line-up against Everton on Friday after being accidently 'lamped' by his cousin Frank in the Chelsea game last weekend.

"It was a complete accident, he caught me with his elbow and it was one of those freak injuries that you get on the field. Luckily enough I haven't had too many of that type, but it busted my lip right open.

"I didn't realise how bad it was and I wanted to come back on, but the bleeding wouldn't stop and the ref wouldn't let me. I had to get it all stitched up and, as it was quite a deep wound, I had to go and see a specialist and he stuck about 20-25 stitches in.

"It is a lot better now and hopefully I will be fine for Friday. I want to play and I'm looking forward to it - I don't want to miss out with a busted lip!"

Jamie considers that taking a positive result from the Everton encounter would be the ideal boost for the run-in with Manchester City at the Lane following quickly on Monday.

"Definitely, we have just slipped four points behind tenth place and we've got to close that gap up. If we do we can go into Monday's game on 40 points and then you are looking at catching the mid-table group rather than looking the other way.

"Everton is an important game for us, they are a decent side with good players. I think they have a couple of suspensions with Rooney and Ferguson and I think we've got to look at that as a positive for us as Rooney is a spectacular young player.

"Hopefully we can get something as we need those points."
