SKIPPER MAKES HIS POINT
Ledley King insists there will be no thoughts of playing for a point when Dinamo Bucharest provide the opposition at the Lane tonight.
Ledley King insists there will be no thoughts of playing for a point when Dinamo Bucharest provide the opposition at the Lane tonight. The Romanians require a win from the final Group B encounter of the UEFA Cup to finish in top spot, while with maximum points so far, a draw would see retain first place and avoid the prospect of taking on a Champions League side in the last 32.
The skipper reasoned that targeting the minimum requirement is not in the nature of the team.
"It is not really our style because we always play to win," pointed out Ledley. "If you do that and end up with a draw then, on this occasion, it would be job done.
"With our fans behind us, of course we will be going for the win.
"A lot of people won't know too much about Dinamo. I was speaking to Danny Murphy and he said they are a very good side, which we all realise as a team and will respect.
"We know we are in for a tough game, but we are at home and feel we can win," he added, concluding by saying that making it 12 points out of 12 would be a satisfying way to mark our return to European football.
"Maybe the players we've got and style we play is suited to European competition. We've enjoyed it so far, I wouldn't say we are surprised at how it has gone, but we're pleased and hopefully we can make it 12 out of 12."
