Sissoko: ‘I sat up and took notice when Spurs played Stoke’

09 September 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Moussa Sissoko remembers being bowled over by the zest with which we dispatched Stoke City on our last trip to the Potteries.

The former Newcastle United man, who joined us on transfer deadline day, watched on television as we beat Mark Hughes’ men 4-0 back on April 18.

It was one of our most memorable performances of last season and the nature of the win certainly made an impression on our new French international midfielder.

Ahead of this Saturday’s return to the newly-renamed bet365 Stadium, Moussa said: “I remember Spurs won 4-0 there last season. I was watching the game on TV and I said at the time ‘Tottenham are too strong’ because they controlled the game from the beginning until the end.

“They played very well and won the game easily because they put everything on the pitch and everyone gave 100 per cent.

“I don’t know if it will be the same game this season but we will try to do everything to win again.”

Moussa’s own encounters with the Potters have yielded an even record to date. Since his arrival at Newcastle in January, 2013, he’s lined up against Stoke on six occasions, winning two, drawing two and losing two.

With those experiences in mind, the 27-year-old is under no illusions about the challenge in front of us this weekend.

“This game will not be easy,” he underlined. “I’ve played a few times against Stoke City and I know that they’re a strong team, particularly when they are at home, so we will go there and try our best to get the three points.

“For me, like I’ve said before, I will try to get to know everyone in the team and try to bring what I can to help us win things.”
