Singing the Blues!
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
It was a night to remember - and this is what the players had to say after our magnificent 5-1 win against Chelsea booked a place in the Worthington Cup Final against Blackburn Rovers on February 24.
Goalscorer Steffen Iversen: "It was brilliant, especially to beat Chelsea the way we did. Everyone was fighting for each other and it was unbelievable just to be out there. For myself, to get that goal was great and I felt great out there. The crowd was unbelievable, to score five goals was perfect and to beat Chelsea that way was fantastic."
Midfielder and ex-Chelsea star Gus Poyet: "If you ask all the supporters everyone was looking for a win but even the most fanatical would have found it difficult to predict a 5-1 result. We all talked before the game and said this was the night to turn the history. I think we did magnificently. It's my first year here and a chance to win a final and get into Europe - it will be a very difficult final but we are there. It is the best result. If you ask people now, they will not forget this night. I said at the draw we now had four chances to beat Chelsea and we had to beat them. It's done now, it's history. We were 2-0 up at half-time and I said I wanted the second half to go in a flash! We played for each other, worked for each other and that was great. It is special for every Spurs supporter, every Spurs player. The crowd were magnificent, we needed that."
Wing-back Mauricio Taricco: "We were confident. It was disappointing to lose to Chelsea already twice this season because we haven't played badly against them. We felt we had a good chance and we were going to give everything. The way I looked at it was we would go out there and give it all and put to rest the 12 years we haven't beaten them. And we did it in style. We wanted to beat Chelsea more than any other team in the Premiership and we did it."
Goalscorer and skipper Teddy Sheringham: "It was brilliant, very enjoyable. We set out in the right manner from the first minute, got at them, made it very difficult for them and very clinical with the chances as well."
Defender Ledley King: "I think that's the best team performance I've been involved in and it's a great achievement for us. We thought we played quite well away from home as well so we were always confident bringing them back here for the second leg. We were determined not to let the strikers turn because once they start running at you they cause all sorts of problems."
