Simon's Welsh delight

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Simon Davies announced his relief at avoiding the unwanted tag of being part of the 'worst Welsh team ever' at the weekend - and suggested that description was somewhat harsh.

Our midfield prospect played a key role in ending a run of 12 games without a win - one more would have been a Welsh record - as Mark Hughes' team beat Belarus in Cardiff.

Simon, 21, set up John Hartson's winner and was in the thick of the action at the Millennium Stadium.

He reflected: "It was a relief but we are a better team than people say. A lot of people jumped on that 'worst team ever' bandwagon in the build up to the game last week and there was a lot of pressure on us.

"In the end we could have won by four or five. I should have scored a couple myself. I was just happy to play, happy to win and pleased for Mark Hughes that we got that win."

Simon added that Hughes was, without question, the man for the Welsh job. "When you look at our World Cup qualifiers we drew six and were ahead in four of those matches. If we'd have won those games we would have been right up there.

"Mark Hughes is the right man for the job. No other manager would have so much respect from the players."
