Simon's simple target
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Simon Davies is crossing the dividing line of enjoying the pure excitement of the Premiership and getting down to serious business.
The young midfielder made his second-successive appearance as substitute in our 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.
While still getting a buzz out of running out at Chelsea — adding Stamford Bridge to a CV that also includes playing at Anfield, Old Trafford and obviously the Lane — Davies remains focussed on taking the next step and pushing his way into the first team.
The 21-year-old said: “Chelsea was a great experience and another appearance but a pity about the result. At my stage I want to get as much experience as I can.
“It’s still very exciting but I’ve settled in and now it’s time really to take the initiative when I get the chance and try and force the issue of getting into the side.
“Getting 10, 15 minutes you want to go on with the side winning but at 2-0 down you are already under pressure. You go on and do what you can but it is difficult. I just want to try and get longer spells on the pitch now.
“So yes, it’s still exciting going to these grounds with the massive crowds but I’m there to do a job and get into the team.”
Davies is certainly taking steps in the right direction. He has been impressive in the reserves and won rave reviews for his performances for Wales Under-21s in the European Championship qualifiers this season.
Another first-team appearance could be next against Birmingham City in the Worthington Cup on Tuesday.
“It’s gone pretty well so far,” he added. “I just got to keep going, try to get a few more minutes under my belt and go from there.”
