Simon's buzzing

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Simon Davies admits that the prospect of the new season has excited him since the final home game of last season against Liverpool.

It was a special day at the Lane, the team put on a fine show and bossed the side that finished second in the Premiership and the supporters created the sort of atmosphere that inspires players to excel.

Our Welsh midfield stylist used the summer break to recharge, but the excitement that goes with a new campaign has been bubbling just below the surface.

"I took the time to relax, went home to Wales for a bit, went to Cyprus for a bit, played a bit of golf and really chilled out," reports Simon.

"I've been excited about the season since the last home game against Liverpool. At Leicester we let ourselves down, but against Liverpool we showed what we could do and the fans were amazing.

"Everyone misses that buzz of playing in front of a crowd and we're all looking forward to it."

First of all though, Simon and the squad have the small matter of pre-season to contend with and he notices a difference in the demands of the managers he has played under and winces when recalling pre-season under Barry Fry at Peterborough.

"It's different with different managers. At Peterborough we used to just run and run and run, which was quite hard.

"When I did my first one under George Graham it was not as hard as the Peterborough one, which I wasn't expecting. I thought it would be harder the higher you went up.

"This is a more scientific approach now with Kunle (fitness coach) and is maybe set out a bit more strategically. It's not too hard but it's got to be done and we've just got to carry on with it."

He is happy, however, that games fill a large part of our pre-season programme.

"Everyone would rather play games to get your match fitness rather than just running and running around the field.

"We've got a lot of games in a short space of time and, by the Celtic and Lazio games, we should be near our fitness I would imagine."
