Craig Bellamy's blistering pace and progress at Newcastle United has even taken Welsh team-mate Simon Davies by surprise.
The striker has been a revelation alongside Alan Shearer in the Toon's rise to Champions League contention this season.
The 22-year-old has bagged 13 goals in 26 games but it's been his pace and the constant threat it provides that has been the real eye opener.
Simon, who continues to impress in his new wing-back role, goes back some way with Bellamy in Welsh youth teams.
But he confessed: "I didn't realise he had that pace until this season when he's really attacked players with a lot of confidence.
"He's been on fire with that pace this season, attacking defenders and scoring goals.
"You didn't really see that last season at Coventry but with better players around him he's really blossomed.
"He's doing well and obviously working and playing alongside someone like Alan Shearer has helped as well, that's probaly made a difference with him helping and guiding him along.
"I played in the Welsh youth teams with him and he went on much quicker into the first team set up.
"I know him well, he's a confident lad, a great talent and he'll be a big threat."
Simon suggested there were parallels in his and Bellamy's progress on the Premiership stage - the more they've played at the highest level, the better the both of them have got.
"The more you play the more confident you get," said Simon, who has scored four goals in his last seven starts. "When you play a few games you learn more and more about what is coming you way when you go out there. It becomes easier to apapt.
"This second spell I've had in the team when I've managed to score a few goals has been great.
"I've really enjoyed my football and it's a great team to play in. It gives you a lot of confidence."
And he's been impressed by Newcastle's sticking power at the top of the Premiership.
He added: "Everyone thought they would fall away and they dropped to fourth at one stage but they've stayed right up there and that's full credit to the spirit there."
