Simon on Savage

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Simon Davies insists his Welsh team-mate Robbie Savage is underrated - but both he and former Fox Kasey Keller claim the midfielder loves to be hated!

Savage is certainly one of those players our fans love to hate.

It all stems from his involvement in a clash that led to Justin Edinburgh getting sent off in the 1999 Worthington Cup Final at Wembley. Of course, we went on to win 1-0 with 10 men.

Goalkeeper Kasey, in goal for City that day, laughed: "Sav's a lot of people's most hated man! He's harmless. He's a good guy. He loves to be the antagonist and he lives up to that."

Simon has lined-up alongside Savage in two of his last four full Welsh appearances.

"He's a great lad," he said. "If he was in our dressing room he would be a great laugh and a great character.

"When we're away with him he's always trying to make the lads laugh. I can understand it from Spurs point of view but as a Wales team-mate he's great.

"As a player he gets about the pitch, breaks things up and has plenty of ability as well. He can pass the ball around.

"He's a good player and underrated because people just think he's a workhorse and a spoiler. But he has ability. He did start his career at Manchester United, after all.

"He has a reputation and I supposed it's a bit like when Steffen Freund plays at away games. But I've got to say he likes to be hated! He likes the attention! Fair play to him though, he's doing well."
